    At Artesia General Hospital, we take great pride in recognizing those who go above and beyond to ensure the safety, well-being, and comfort of our patients. Patient Safety Superstars  are those who demonstrates exceptional commitment to reducing risks, preventing errors, and fostering a culture of compassionate, high-quality care. We’re proud to highlight several incredible healthcare professionals who embody these qualities.

    Dr. Michael Mann – Providing Compassionate & Expert Surgical Care

    Sometimes, the impact of exceptional care extends far beyond medical expertise—it touches lives in deeply personal and meaningful ways. Recently, an area resident experienced the heartbreaking loss of his wife, but before her passing, he was compelled to recognize Dr. Mann for the exceptional care and compassion he provided throughout her surgery and recovery. From the very beginning, Dr. Mann’s dedication and kindness made the family feel safe and supported during an incredibly difficult time. Not only did he perform the surgery with great expertise, but he also took the extra step of personally calling to check on her multiple times afterward. These follow-up calls brought tremendous comfort, ensuring she was receiving the best possible care. As her husband shared his story, he became emotional, recalling how thoughtful Dr. Mann was—his kindness, attention to detail, and unwavering compassion made a significant impact during an unimaginable time.

    AGH JewelDr. Peter Jewell – Providing Exceptional Patient Care

    Dr. Peter Jewell was recognized for his exceptional care and unwavering dedication to his patients. A patient shared the profound impact Dr. Jewell had on their life, noting the difference he made. They began under Dr. Jewell’s care in Roswell and are convinced that he saved their life. When health concerns arose, Dr. Jewell collaborated with cardiology, acting swiftly to ensure the patient was seen promptly. This demonstrated his commitment to working closely with specialists to prioritize his patient’s well-being. Additionally, Dr. Jewell consistently goes above and beyond whenever the patient needs care. Despite the challenges associated with their traumatic injury, Dr. Jewell never treats them poorly or makes them feel any less than others. Instead, he always treats them with kindness, respect, and understanding, which the patient deeply values.

    They emphasized that Dr. Jewell’s expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his patients make him not just a good doctor, but an exceptional one. It is clear from their words that Dr. Jewell’s advocacy, along with his genuine care, has had an immense positive impact on their health and overall well-being.

    Patient Safety SuperstarJordan Fuentes, RDN – Leading the Way in Nutrition & Patient Safety

    Jordan Fuentes, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) at Artesia General Hospital, is passionate about empowering people with the knowledge and confidence to make positive health changes. Her dedication to patient safety and well-being is evident in everything she does. In the fall, Jordan identified an opportunity to enhance the accuracy and consistency of dietary tray preparation and delivery. With a keen eye for detail, she collaborated with the Dietary Director to develop an onboarding education program that improved training, strengthened communication, and ensured every patient received the correct diet.

    Her efforts contribute directly to patient safety, ensuring meals are tailored to each individual’s nutritional needs, supporting healing and recovery.

    Joslyn Montanez - Patient Safety AdvocateJoslyn Montanez, CMA – Kindness and Compassion for Patients

    Joslyn was recognized for going above and beyond in patient care.  She also demonstrating remarkable kindness and compassion throughout the process. A patient was initially going to have to fill out paperwork on their own, but Joslyn took the time to assist, ensuring the process went smoothly and without any added stress. Her willingness to go the extra mile did not go unnoticed, and the patient expressed great appreciation for her support. Joslyn’s dedication and caring attitude made a significant impact on the patient experience.

    Patient Safety Advocate Pamela Munoz, RN – Patient Advocate

    Pam goes above and beyond to make sure her patients receive safe care. In her role, she provides education to visitors of patients on isolation and ensures they are being taken care of. In the past we had a patient that there was concern of signing legal documents with an outside notary brought into the hospital. Pam immediately questioned the outside notary, on what papers the patient would be signing and immediately involved the house supervisor and the compliance officer to ensure this was proper procedure. She was concerned for the patient and encouraged the notary to verify the patient was oriented enough to understand what they were signing. This action led to her being praised for being a patient advocate. She continues to work every day with the patient safety at the front of her mind and is seen as a leader in the department in doing so.

    Patient Safety Superstars consistently demonstrate vigilance by carefully monitoring details to ensure patients receive the safest, most effective care. They advocate for patients by speaking up to ensure their needs are met and their voices are heard. Staying knowledgeable about best practices, they apply their expertise to enhance patient outcomes. Collaboration is key, as they work closely with teams across disciplines to foster a culture of safety. They lead by example, taking initiative to improve processes and inspire others. Strong problem-solving skills allow them to identify risks and implement solutions to prevent errors, while a commitment to continuous improvement ensures they are always learning and refining practices to provide the highest standard of care.
