Face Facts: Now You Can Look Years Younger

It’s hard to feel young at heart when you think you look old. For many of us, midlife means unwelcome wrinkles, blotches and creases in our skin. Until recently, there was little a person could do–or afford—that would restore a smooth complexion.

Joe P. Salgado, MDBut now, skin rejuvenation can give back a fresher, more youthful appearance. Two techniques, Botox® and dermal fillers, are available at the practice of Joe P. Salgado, MD.

Botox is an FDA-approved purified protein that’s injected into wrinkles to help flatten the muscles that cause forehead lines, crow’s feet and smoker’s wrinkles around the lips. It can also ease migraines and excessive sweating. New techniques with Botox include the “Nefertiti Neck Lift” and “Botox Brow Lift.”

“Treatments last three to four months and can be repeated,” says Dr. Salgado. “It gives the skin a smooth appearance.” The nonsurgical treatment takes just minutes and requires no recovery time; plus, discomfort is minimal.

Dermal fillers help “reinflate” or volumize sunken skin. Hyaluronic acid, which is in Juvederm® and Belotero®, is injected around fine lines near the mouth and chin. It can help improve marionette lines, downturned corners of the mouth, lip plumpness, laugh lines or lipstick lines—and is also used for cheek enhancements. Additional procedures include cheek volumization with Voluma XC! and improved techniques for lip volumization, such as the “keyhole pout.”

“The process is nearly pain-free, and recovery occurs within hours. Juvederm and Belotero results last six to 12 months,” says Dr. Salgado.
