Name: Hugo Hernandez
Position and Department: Accounting Manager – Accounting and Finance
How long have you worked at Artesia General Hospital? It will be four years in October.
What inspires and motivates you to work in healthcare?
My inspiration comes from being able to create a community and help the community with the skills I currently possess.
What do you like best or find most rewarding about working at Artesia General Hospital?
The most rewarding aspect of working at Artesia General Hospital is being able to be a part of a team that is always striving to improve processes for the betterment of the patients and community as a whole.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I enjoy making wax candles, processing honey, tending to my livestock and spending time with my family. We currently have two dogs, four hives, three alpacas and seven head of cattle.
Where are you originally from?
I am from Dexter, New Mexico.
Is there anything you want to share with your coworkers that I haven’t asked you?
That I look forward to continuing to build relationships and continuing to make Artesia General Hospital a great place to work.

He is patient (and very kind).
How does Hugo support other staff at Artesia General Hospital?
When I joined Artesia General Hospital, I received a handwritten note card with a small Zia symbol sticker (that I still have on my desk) welcoming me and sending a note of encouragement, offering assistance to me with any accounting-related matters.
How does Hugo go above and beyond for his coworkers?
As a new Director going through the budgeting process for the first time, I can tell you that without Hugo’s help, I would never have been able to complete the assignment. He was patient, came to my office and worked with me a couple of times and always encouraged me.
What do you like about working with Hugo?
I like working with Hugo because he is always willing to help me (or anyone) and has a smile and a patient demeanor when dealing with accounting issues.

Helpful, happy, knowledgeable
