    Infusion Services Provide Convenient Care

Infusion services, bring much-needed, high-quality care closer to home for residents in the region. This service is particularly beneficial for patients in Artesia and Carlsbad who require regular infusion treatments, such as those managing cancer, autoimmune diseases, infections, or chronic pain.

Adam Kabler, a patient at the infusion center, shared his positive experience, “In all my years of receiving infusions across multiple states and countries, the infusion center at Artesia General Hospital stands out as one of the best. The staff is incredibly friendly and highly skilled, and the facility is both comfortable and welcoming.”

Infusion therapy, a treatment method where medications are administered directly into the bloodstream via an IV, is vital for patients with chronic or severe conditions. AGH’s infusion center offers these services locally, saving patients the burden of traveling long distances for essential care.

    State-of-the-Art Facilities for Patient Comfort

The infusion center at AGH is designed with patient comfort in mind. Each patient is provided with a private infusion chair, with warm blankets, Wi-Fi, and entertainment options, making the often-lengthy treatment process more pleasant. “We understand that infusion treatments can be emotionally and physically draining,” said Alejandra Chavarria, Vascular Access Board-Certified nurse and department lead. “Our goal is to create a supportive environment where patients can relax and feel cared for throughout their treatment.”

In addition to the comfortable setting, the center is equipped with advanced medical technology, including the latest in intravenous access: The VPS Rhythm® DLX Device with TipTracker™ Technology. This  device, assists the clinician in inserting a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC), which is typically inserted into the arm and threaded toward the heart for patients who require long-term infusion therapy, like those undergoing chemotherapy or receiving extended antibiotic treatments. The DLX device offers enhanced flexibility and a lower risk of complications and eliminates the need for a confirmatory x-ray, helping the clinician seamlessly move from ultrasound vessel assessment through PICC navigation to final tip confirmation in the lower third of the superior vena cava.

    Expertise and Personalized Care

The infusion team at AGH is made up of highly skilled nurses and medical professionals trained in the latest infusion techniques and medications. This experienced team works closely with each patient’s primary care physician or specialist to create individualized treatment plans tailored to the patient’s specific needs.

“We’re committed to delivering compassionate care, and that means taking the time to ensure every patient’s treatment plan is customized to fit their circumstances,” said Chavarria. “Whether it’s for a short-term treatment or long-term therapy, we work to make sure the experience is as comfortable and effective as possible.”

The hospital’s infusion services include not just antibiotic and hydration therapy, but also blood transfusions, immunotherapy, and vascular access placement of PICCs and midlines. Flexible scheduling options, including extended hours, are available to accommodate patients’ treatment needs and personal schedules.

    Reducing the Burden of Travel

One of the primary benefits of the new infusion center is the convenience it offers to local patients. By providing these essential services right in the heart of the community, AGH is helping patients avoid long trips to larger cities for care. This is especially important for those who require frequent infusions, as well as for those who face challenges with travel due to their health conditions.

“We know how difficult it can be for patients to leave town for treatment,” said Rebecca Nesse, Director of Surgical Services at AGH. “By offering infusion services locally, we’re reducing that burden, allowing patients to focus on their health and recovery without the added stress of travel.”

    A Welcoming and Supportive Environment

From the moment patients walk into the infusion center, they are met with warmth and support from the staff. The team at AGH strives to make the treatment process as seamless and stress-free as possible. For those who are unsure whether infusion therapy is the right choice, consultations with specialists are available to answer any questions and help guide patients through their options.

“At AGH, we believe in treating the whole person—not just the condition,” said Shawna Beasley, CMA. “That means understanding each patient’s unique needs and providing care that reflects that. Our staff is dedicated to making every patient feel comfortable and well cared for.” That’s a sentiment that is reflected by patients. “Alejandra and Shawna are amazing, very friendly and professional, they made me feel very comfortable and I appreciate them very much!” said Angelina Davila patient at the center.
