Grillin and Chillin for the 4th!

Fire up the grill, cue the sparklers, and rally your favorite people—nothing says “Happy Independence Day” like a backyard  burger party! (green chile optional)  From Artesia to Carlsbad and Roswell, the sizzle of this burger from AGH’s Green Chile Cafe turns any patio into celebration central: a juicy 8-oz patty and cheddar that melts like fireworks.

So crank up the music, flip a few burgers, and get to Grillin and Chillin for the 4th while you laugh with friends, share stories, and toast America’s birthday under a sky bursting with red-white-and-blue.

Star-Spangled Ingredients (makes 1 burger—multiply for the whole crew)

    • 8 oz lean ground-beef patty

    • 1 Tbsp roasted hot green chile, chopped ️ (optional)

    • 2 slices sharp cheddar—the meltier, the better

    • 1 potato bun, toasted to lightly brown

    • Red-onion rings, brushed with olive oil

    • Fresh tomato slices & crisp leaf lettuce

    • Firework Sauce

      • 1 tsp mayo

      • ½ tsp Dijon mustard

      • 2 Tbsp smoky BBQ sauce of choice

    Five-Minute, Five-Star Method

    1. Heat wave: Preheat grill to medium-high (about 400 °F).

    2. Season & sizzle: Sprinkle patty with salt/pepper, drop it on the grates, and cook to preferred doneness.

    3. Cheese eruption: Add cheddar during the last 60 seconds; close the lid for a lava-like melt.

    4. Bun & veggie cameo: Toast bun halves 30 seconds; char onion rings 1–2 minutes per side.

    5. Green-chile finale: Warm chile in a small skillet on the cooler side of the grill—just until steamy.

    6. Stack the spectacular:

      • Bottom bun + Firework Sauce

      • Lettuce & tomato

      • Cheddar-smothered patty

      • Grilled onion

      • Fiery green chile crowning glory for those of us that like it on the spicy side

      • Top bun, pop, and devour!

    Quick Safety Sparkler

Grilling should light up the sky—not your ER bill. Keep a trusty thermometer handy, flip often to dodge flare-ups, and stash leftovers in the fridge within two hours. That’s it—back to the party! for more tips visit foodsafety.gov
