Open MRI & Imaging Services in Carlsbad, NM

Many patients dread the traditional MRI. At Carlsbad Open MRI & Imaging Center — an outpatient department of Artesia General Hospital — we offer open MRI in Carlsbad, NM designed for your comfort without sacrificing diagnostic quality. Our high-field open system gives you an unobstructed view on all sides throughout your entire scan. Plus, we offer a full range of imaging services, so you get the care you need right here in Carlsbad.

Why Patients Choose Open MRI in Carlsbad

Traditional MRI machines place the patient in a long tube which is open at both ends . Our open MRI system eliminates that experience entirely. Instead, you rest on a wide, comfortable table with open space surrounding you on all sides.

Our open MRI serves patients who:

  • Feel claustrophobic or anxious in traditional closed-bore MRI machines
  • Need more space due to body size or bariatric considerations
  • Have limited mobility, chronic back pain, or joint conditions that make lying in a tube difficult
  • Are elderly patients who benefit from easier positioning
  • Are children who need a less intimidating imaging environment

Furthermore, our high-field open system delivers the diagnostic image quality your physician needs. You never have to choose between comfort and accuracy.

Imaging Services at Our Carlsbad Location

Carlsbad Open MRI & Imaging Center provides a full suite of diagnostic imaging services. As a result, patients throughout Carlsbad, Loving, Eddy County, and southeastern New Mexico can access hospital-grade imaging close to home..

High Field Open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Our open MRI in Carlsbad NM uses a high-field magnet to produce detailed images of the brain, spine, joints, and soft tissue. The open design reduces anxiety while delivering the clarity your physician relies on for an accurate diagnosis.

MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiogram)

MRA uses the same magnetic technology as MRI to image blood vessels and vascular structures. It requires no radiation and no surgery — just a non-invasive scan.

Digital X-ray

We offer digital X-ray for fast, accurate imaging of bones and chest structures. Walk-ins are welcome for X-ray services.

Ultrasound

Our ultrasound services image abdominal organs, pelvic structures, vascular systems, and more. Walk-in ultrasounds are available during business hours.

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram uses ultrasound technology to evaluate your heart’s structure and function. It involves no radiation and typically takes less than an hour.

Conditions Our Imaging Center Diagnoses

Physicians across southeastern New Mexico refer patients to us for imaging related to a wide range of conditions:

  • Knee, shoulder, hip, and joint injuries
  • Herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and chronic back pain
  • Neurological conditions and brain disorders
  • Soft tissue injuries, ligament tears, and tendon damage
  • Arthritis and degenerative joint disease
  • Abdominal and pelvic conditions
  • Vascular and cardiovascular conditions
  • Sports injuries and occupational injuries, including those common in oil and gas work

What to Expect at Your Carlsbad Imaging Appointment

Knowing what to expect makes your visit easier. Here is a step-by-step overview of the process at our Carlsbad imaging center.

Step 1 — Get a referral.

A physician’s order is required to schedule MRI, MRA, ultrasound, and echocardiogram services. Walk-ins are welcome for digital X-ray without a referral.

Step 2 — Schedule your appointment.

Call us at (575) 628-1234. Our team will confirm your insurance, answer your questions, and schedule a time that works for you.

Step 3 — Prepare for your scan.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing without metal zippers or clasps. Leave jewelry at home. Your technologist will give you specific preparation instructions when you schedule.

Step 4 — Complete your scan.

Most MRI exams take 30 to 45 minutes. X-rays and ultrasounds are typically faster. Your technologist will guide you through every step.

Step 5 — Results go to your doctor.

Board-certified radiologists review your images and send results securely and promptly to your referring physician.

Frequently asked Questions about Open MRI in Carlsbad, NM

What is the primary advantage of an “Open” MRI?

The primary advantage is patient comfort. The open-sided design dramatically reduces feelings of anxiety and claustrophobia that many people experience in traditional, tube-like MRI machines. This allows patients who might otherwise avoid a necessary scan to get the diagnostic imaging they need in a calm and relaxed setting.

Is the image quality of the Carlsbad Open MRI as good as a traditional MRI?

Yes. Our facility uses a High Field Open MRI system. The “high field” strength is key, as it provides the power needed to generate clear, high-resolution images that are essential for an accurate diagnosis. You get the comfort of an open design without sacrificing the quality your doctor relies on.

What services can I get at the Carlsbad Imaging Center?

Our Carlsbad center is a comprehensive imaging hub. We specialize in Open MRI and MRA scans and also offer a full range of digital X-rays and ultrasound services, including specialized vascular ultrasounds and echocardiograms (heart ultrasounds).

Do I need an appointment for all services?

For MRI and MRA scans, yes, an appointment is required, and we are pleased to offer Saturday appointments for your convenience. For ultrasound exams, we proudly offer walk-in availability during regular business hours, making it easier to get care when you need it. A referral from your physician is required for all diagnostic tests.

I live closer to Artesia. Can I still use the Carlsbad Open MRI facility?

Absolutely. The Carlsbad Open MRI & Imaging Center is an outpatient department of Artesia General Hospital, serving all of southeastern New Mexico. Patients from Artesia, Roswell, and surrounding communities are welcome to use our services, especially if the Saturday scheduling or the Open MRI technology is the best fit for your needs.
