As an outpatient department of Artesia General Hospital, our facility is designed to reduce the anxiety often associated with medical tests. We combine a patient-first philosophy with powerful imaging technology, offering the Carlsbad NM community trusted, high-quality imaging, right here at home.
The Carlsbad Open MRI Difference: High-Quality Imaging, Maximum Comfort
Our centerpiece is the High Field Open MRI, a system specifically chosen to address patient comfort without compromising image quality. An Open MRI is an ideal solution for a wide range of patients.
- A More Relaxing Environment: The open-sided design eliminates the enclosed feeling of a traditional MRI. This is perfect for patients who experience claustrophobia or anxiety, providing a calming and stress-free atmosphere.
- Accommodating for All Body Types: The spacious format comfortably accommodates patients of all sizes, ensuring a dignified and comfortable scan.
- Excellent Image Quality: Our High Field system provides the powerful magnetic strength needed to produce clear, detailed images. It gives your doctor the diagnostic confidence to accurately assess your condition.

Carlsbad Open MRI Diagnostic Services
We are committed to making healthcare accessible for our busy community. As your local imaging partner in Carlsbad, we offer a range of in-house services with flexible scheduling. We also offer Saturday MRI appointments.
High Field Open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
An MRI uses powerful magnets and radio waves (not radiation) to create highly detailed images of your soft tissues, joints, spine, and internal organs. Our Open MRI provides this advanced imaging in a comfortable, non-enclosed setting.
MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiogram)
This is a specialized type of MRI that focuses specifically on the body’s blood vessels. An MRA is a non-invasive way for doctors to detect blockages, aneurysms, or other abnormalities in your arteries and veins.
Digital X-ray
An X-ray is a fast, essential tool that creates images of the inside of your body, particularly your bones. It is the primary method for diagnosing fractures, dislocations, and certain lung conditions like pneumonia.
Ultrasound
This safe, radiation-free procedure uses sound waves to create real-time images of your organs and tissues. It is commonly used to examine the abdomen (liver, gallbladder), check blood flow in veins (vascular ultrasound), and assess pelvic organs. Walk-ins are welcome for ultrasound services.

Frequently asked Questions about Carlsbad Open MRI
What is the primary advantage of an “Open” MRI?
The primary advantage is patient comfort. The open-sided design dramatically reduces feelings of anxiety and claustrophobia that many people experience in traditional, tube-like MRI machines. This allows patients who might otherwise avoid a necessary scan to get the diagnostic imaging they need in a calm and relaxed setting.
Is the image quality of the Carlsbad Open MRI as good as a traditional MRI?
Yes. Our facility uses a High Field Open MRI system. The “high field” strength is key, as it provides the power needed to generate clear, high-resolution images that are essential for an accurate diagnosis. You get the comfort of an open design without sacrificing the quality your doctor relies on.
What services can I get at the Carlsbad Imaging Center?
Our Carlsbad center is a comprehensive imaging hub. We specialize in Open MRI and MRA scans and also offer a full range of digital X-rays and ultrasound services, including specialized vascular ultrasounds and echocardiograms (heart ultrasounds).
Do I need an appointment for all services?
For MRI and MRA scans, yes, an appointment is required, and we are pleased to offer Saturday appointments for your convenience. For ultrasound exams, we proudly offer walk-in availability during regular business hours, making it easier to get care when you need it. A referral from your physician is required for all diagnostic tests.
I live closer to Artesia. Can I still use the Carlsbad Open MRI facility?
Absolutely. The Carlsbad Open MRI & Imaging Center is an outpatient department of Artesia General Hospital, serving all of southeastern New Mexico. Patients from Artesia, Roswell, and surrounding communities are welcome to use our services, especially if the Saturday scheduling or the Open MRI technology is the best fit for your needs.
