Accepted Insurance:
Parterning for your Health
If you have health insurance, Artesia General Hospital will first bill your insurance carrier on your behalf. After your plan processes the claim, any portion not covered by your insurance (such as deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, or non-covered services) will be your responsibility.
If you need to update your information for billing, please contact our Billing Office as soon as possible. Most insurance companies have strict timely filing requirements, and up-to-date information helps us bill your plan correctly and on time.
Insurance plans we accept include, but are not limited to:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Cigna Healthcare
- Humana
- Medicare
- Medicaid
- Molina Healthcare
- Presbyterian Health Plan
- UnitedHealthcare (UMR/GEHA)
- VA / Tri-West / TRICARE
Insurance plans can vary, so calling the number on the back of your card is often the easiest way to confirm your benefits.

Understanding your statement
Before you receive a bill from Artesia General Hospital, we will submit a claim to your health insurance provider (including Medicare and Medicaid, if applicable) and any secondary insurance on file. After your insurance has processed the claim, you’ll receive a statement from us for any remaining balance.
Your statement may include:
- Hospital services – such as room and board, supplies, diagnostic tests (for example, X-rays, EKGs, and lab work), procedures, and medications.
- Professional services – such as care provided by physicians and advanced practice providers during your visit, as well as specialists who interpret test results (for example, radiologists or pathologists).
If you have questions about your statement or need help understanding the charges, please call the local Artesia General Hospital Billing Office at 575-736-8120. Our team can walk through your bill with you line by line.
The No Surprises Billing Act: patient rights and protections
As of January 1, 2022, federal law offers important protections against “surprise billing” and “balance billing.” In many situations, when you receive emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from being billed more than your in-network cost share.
These protections are part of the No Surprises Billing Act and are designed to help you avoid unexpected medical bills. You have the right to:
- Receive a clear explanation of any out-of-network charges
- Be informed about your estimated costs in advance, when possible
- Dispute certain charges that you believe are incorrect
To learn more about your rights and protections please contact AGH at 575-736-8120.
Types of Insurance Coverage
Medicare
If you are covered by Medicare, Artesia General Hospital will submit claims directly to Medicare for you. After Medicare processes the claim and makes payment, we’ll bill your supplemental or secondary insurance (if you have one) for the remaining eligible balance.
If you do not have supplemental or secondary insurance coverage, you will be responsible for any remaining balance as determined by Medicare. For more information, please refer to your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from Medicare and any secondary plan.
Medicaid
Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps cover medical costs for individuals and families with limited income. If you are covered by New Mexico Medicaid, please provide your current eligibility information or card at the time of service.
Eligibility for Medicaid can change, so it’s important that we have your most recent insurance coverage details for each month you receive care.
Self-pay patients
If you do not have health insurance, or if you are receiving services that are not covered by your plan, you will be considered a self-pay patient.
Self-pay patients at Artesia General Hospital may qualify for discounts or financial assistance based on their financial situation and the type of services received. Our Financial Counseling team can:
- Review your estimated costs
- Discuss available discounts or financial assistance programs
- Help you plan for upcoming medical expenses
To learn more, please contact Financial Counseling at 575-736-8120.
What you’ll pay
Estimating your out-of-pocket costs
We want you to have a clear picture of your potential out-of-pocket costs before you receive care. Your costs will depend on:
- Your insurance plan’s coverage and network
- Any deductibles, co-pays, or co-insurance you may owe
- The specific services and procedures you receive
If you’d like an estimate for an upcoming test, procedure, or hospital stay, our team can provide a personalized cost estimate based on your insurance information and planned services.
To request an estimate, please call 575-736-8120 and ask to speak with a financial counselor about an upcoming service.
