The BEE Award at Artesia General Hospital recognizes support staff who make patient care possible. Patients, families, and colleagues nominate, and an AGH committee selects honorees throughout the year. Shawna Beasley and Briana Payan are our latest winners, honored for the kindness and patience that patients remember.
Celebrating the Teammates Behind Patient Care
Patients remember more than the procedure. They remember the person who smiled at the door, stayed calm in a hard moment, or made a long visit feel lighter.
At Artesia General Hospital, we honor those teammates with the BEE Award. Today, we are proud to celebrate two winners, Shawna Beasley and Briana Payan.
What Is the BEE Award at Artesia General Hospital?
The BEE Award honors support personnel who show teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to service in patient care. It pairs with our DAISY Award for nurses. Just as a daisy cannot grow without a bee, our nurses rely on the outstanding teamwork of their colleagues.
Anyone who supports patient care at AGH or any AGH outpatient clinic can be nominated. That includes transportation aides, unit assistants, unit clerks, housekeepers, nursing assistants, kitchen staff, and others. Patients, families, and colleagues can allsubmit nominations. Then a committee at AGH chooses recipients throughout the year.
Each honoree receives a BEE Award pin, a certificate recognizing them as an exceptional caregiver, and a bag filled with goodies.
Shawna Beasley: Making Every Patient Feel Special
Shawna Beasley, a CMA in our Infusion Center, received multiple nominations, and each one points to the same quality. She makes people feel seen.
For example, one nomination came from a parent whose teenager is a regular patient. Shawna went out of her way to help the daughter feel valued, even decorating her chair and giving her a small birthday gift. The parent wrote that Shawna is an amazing person and that the family could not ask for a better caregiver.
Other patients echoed that warmth. One said Shawna always greets them with a smile and always makes them feel special. Another said she goes above and beyond every time to provide great care to all of her patients. Finally, a fourth called her easy to speak with and understand, and very caring.
Briana Payan: Patient, Unhurried, and Kind
Briana Payan, a phlebotomist on our Laboratory team, was nominated by a patient who finds blood draws stressful. She completed the draw on the first try, yet the patient said her care went far beyond technique.
According to the nomination, Briana stayed with the patient and the patient’s husband. She did not rush, and she did not judge. Her responses were comforting, kind, and steady. As a result, the patient felt supported through both the physical and emotional parts of the visit.
The nominator said every hospital needs 100 Brianas. In closing, the nomination states that Briana “truly represents the medical profession to the highest degree.”
What These Nominations Have in Common
Neither story centers on a piece of equipment or a procedure. Both describe how a person was treated. A warm greeting, an unhurried pace, and a decorated chair are small choices, yet they shape how safe patients feel.
That is why the BEE Award exists. Together, our nurses, providers, and support teams work as one, and patients feel that teamwork at every step of their visit. Shawna and Briana, thank you.
